Abstract

MENDES, Thamiris Christine  and  PEREIRA, Ana Lúcia. Being teacher and remaining in the profession: a study with teachers from elementary and high school. Educ. Teoria Prática [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.55, pp.389-407. ISSN 1981-8106.  https://doi.org/10.18675/1981-8106.vol27.n55.p389-407.

The objective of this study was to understand what is being and remaining a teacher. The research is a qualitative approach and participants are state teachers in the continuing education process by PDE (Education Development Program - Paraná). Data gathering was carried out by semi-structured interviews (N=6), and data were analyzed in the framework of discursive textual analysis. The results show that being a teacher for the subjects, is first, having a commitment, secondly being dedicated and third is always to seek education and be engaged in research and new learning; also relates to the social, covers work with the knowledge and the uncertainty of contemporaneity. On the other hand remaining a teacher was proved by the significant “transformation”. It is concluded that the investigated teachers need to account for situations that are beyond the process of teaching and learning, overcoming it and remaining a teacher engages closely with the desire to be recognized by the other.
