Abstract

GRANDI, Caroline Almeida da Silva  and  VOLPATO, Gildo. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEACHING AND RESEARCH IN THE PERCEPTION OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN HIGHER EDUCATION. Educ. Teoria Prática [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.58, pp.204-219.  Epub Jan 01, 2019. ISSN 1981-8106.  https://doi.org/10.18675/1981-8106.vol28.n58.p204-219.

This article presents reflections on the relationship between teaching and research in the perception of English professors in higher education. It discusses the need to understand how this relationship occurs and the level of students’ participation in this process, based on the teachers' perception. We interviewed three professors who teach English disciplines in the course of Letters - English, at a community university in Santa Catarina. For the interpretation of the data, we used the principles of Content Analysis. This study demonstrated that teachers use different activities to promote the relationship between research and teaching in their classes. However, this relationship is still incipient, in the perception of the interviewees, due to the resistance of the students and the difficulty of the teachers. From the analysis of the interviews, we concluded that seeing students as spectators in the research carried out by teachers is still more common than actively participating in it.
