Abstract

DANTAS, Eriane de Araújo  and  JESUS, Wellington Ferreira de. EFFICIENT TEACHERS: HOW TO ENSURE BEST RESULTS WITH WORLD BANK’S POLICY OF CONTROL OVER TEACHERS. Educ. Teoria Prática [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.58, pp.391-407.  Epub Jan 01, 2019. ISSN 1981-8106.  https://doi.org/10.18675/1981-8106.vol28.n58.p391-407.

This article discusses the World Bank’s point of view on the teacher appreciation. The study uses discourse analysis, in Fairclough’s (2001) perspective, to analyze the document Overview from the book Great teachers: how to raise student learning in Latin America and the Caribbean. The World Bank aims to promote policies to increase teachers’ efficiency and to improve students’ results in national and international tests, suggesting a system of control over teachers’ behavior, with reforms such as elimination of job security and performance-based remuneration.
