The present work is the excerpt of a master's thesis on the life and work of the writer Elias José, in order to present the literary production of the author, as well as the consonances between his works with the demands of the school. The study develops in two directions: the first, which presents the biography of Elias José and the second, which aims to present an interlocution between the works of the writer with the instances of legitimation of the children's book in Brazil, namely, the PNBE and the FNLIJ and also with the L DB and PCN, official documents that guide the pedagogical work in the country, in order to present the contributions of this production in the context of the children and adolescent literature. The methodological procedure of this study considers the historical trajectory of the writer's production, giving visibility to the trends of a historical moment of the children and educational literature, contributing and reinforcing with the researches already existing in this area.
