This paper aims to promote a dialogue between environmental education and aesthetic education from a critical and emancipatory view, in order to problematize the concept of sustainability that is present in our social context. In this discussion, the conception of sustainable development is clarified and the conceptualization of significant sustainability that opposes the capitalist logic is elected. The methodology consists in presenting the concepts of environmental education, aesthetic education and sustainability in order to analyze conceptual approaches and understand possible ways to effectively achieve a humanizing education. Results evidenced that aesthetic education and environmental education are significantly important in human formation and, when stimulated, in the educational context, can contribute to human development in its entirety. There is the need for sense emancipation and, in this process, aesthetic education and environmental education can play a central role.
