The Support Program for the Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities (Reuni), established by Decree No. 6096/2007, was launched by the Education Development Plan (PDI) as a program which aimed to expand the federal higher education system. Reuni was an educational policy inserted into the context of the New Public Management concepts. This article presents the results of a literature review that aimed to analyze the repercussions on assessment and management practices based on the current processes of reconfiguration of policies and procedures for assessment and regulation of Brazilian higher education, as well as their relationship with the means of supervision of the State within the Reuni. In the survey carried out in 2017 in Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and in the repository of dissertations and theses of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education (Capes), with the keyword “Reuni”, we found 187 works. In the abstracts, we observed that 114 works had case studies as their research methodology. The theme with the highest incidence was “access and permanence”. We concluded that administrative changes in institutions were stimulated more by growth than by the requirements of the contract signed with the federal government.
