This article analyses the effects and impacts of award policies on the performance of students in the Municipal Public Education Network of Teresina, using legislation and data related to educational performance and results made available by Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (Inep) and by the Secretaria Municipal de Educação (Semec)of Teresina.The cenario is analyzed qualitatively to outline the design of policies and quantitatively according to the type of evaluation; in effect, periodic measurements performed before and after the award and in impact are observed, the interrupted time series method combined with the 'difference-in-differences' method. It was found that the awards had effects and impacts and improved educational indicators, the school performance of their students and the Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (IDEB) of schools in general and in the Municipal Education Network of Teresina, but there was not always a cause and effect relationship between them and the results.
