Social media provides a new form of personal identity, changes people's perceptions of others, the environment, and about themselves. This article aims to analyze the strategies used by mass communication that interferes with the sociability of people. Method: The methodological design used was the bibliographical research. The results: The use of these tools has modified the ways of transmitting, receiving and decoding symbolic goods, significantly transforming behavior by influencing relationships between people, family ties, the market and the consumer, dictating rules, setting standards, and creating ideologies. The culture of virtuality creates and recreates a conjuncture of personal relationships and symbolic exchanges, marked by the interaction of technologies. Conclusion: The technology should be used to strengthen affective bonds to solve problems.
