Gilberto Freyre (1900-1987) stands out as one of the classic authors of Brazilian Social Thought, being considered one of the main interpreters of Brazil, however, his work is still insufficiently explored in the educational field, especially in the debate about university teaching. In this brief article I intend to make some notes about how Freyre analyzes the issue of university teaching in Brazil, pointing out how his positions in this field relate to his previous academic experiences, producing a conception of teaching associated with research and the idea of region.
