This review tries to present to the reader some of the anxieties behind the thought of Darcy Ribeiro, from the texts organized in the book of Lúcia Velloso. Although more than two decades have passed since the death of the author (educator, anthropologist and, above all, Brazilian), his writings are more current and necessary than ever before, in order to understand the critical role to be played by a quality education, focused on the formation of citizenship.
