This paper aims is to socialize the results of a literature review focused on the concepts of informal education and indigenous protagonism in the Latin American context. These concepts are relevant to the study of indigenous knowledge and to the understanding of the conflicting relationship between the educational model of eurocentric matrix and the teaching and learning practices present in the native cultures of America. Besides the conceptual analysis, the paper presents two subsections that describe and analyze the particularities of indigenous informal education from two ethnographic studies carried out in Peru and Costa Rica, selected by the refinement of the literature review.
