The review highlights the main contributions of the work The cruelpedagogy of the virus, a relevant essay written by Boaventura de Sousa Santos, in 2020, in the midst of the crisis caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus. It presents important issues that help us to understand the effects of the crisis, as well as to identify its various causes and implications related to the economic, political and social scenario in which we live. The author also proposes viable alternatives, which indicate the need to change the way we relate to the different living beings on the planet. The work is extremely relevant, as it helps us to reflect on a more than emerging theme that has profoundly altered the way we be, live, work, study and that calls into question fundamental questions in relation to the future of our existence.
