Brega funk has been designed as a manifestation that articulates sound, visual and cultural aspects around an aesthetic that presents itself with singularities characteristic of the periphery of Recife, capital from Pernambuco. The objective of this text, through Cultural Studies and Gender Studies, is to identify gender representations in three hits songs from carnival 2019 in Recife: “Tome na Pepeka”, “Tome empurradão” and “Louca e Descarada” to illustrate that cultural artifacts educate about gender and sexuality. Acting as a cultural pedagogy in the education of subjects, these media bring gender representations that are not isolated, but that comprise a broader cultural context. By representing the virility of the man and the romanticism of the woman, such cultural artifacts prove to be potent for reflections and debates around the constitution of identities and the possibilities of Cultural Studies to focus even more on the relations between media, culture and education.
