This study presents the results of a survey on human rights and school education. The general objective was to investigate the subjective dimension of the educational process of a public school in the city of São Paulo. The main objective was to investigate the subjective dimension of the educational process in a public school in the city of São Paulo. The methodological approach and the information production procedure were inspired by critical-collaborative research. The procedures for analyzing and interpreting the information were based on the proposal of meaning nuclei. Historical-dialectical materialism and socio-historical psychology constitute the theoretical-methodological foundation of this research. The results show: the lack of a theoretical foundation to guide the practices of confrontation and violence in school, using the Christian religion to answer this question; the resistance to address topics considered divergent from Christian dogmas in the school curriculum.

Keywords : school education; human rights; laicity.
