This article is based on the observation that there is a spatial segregation combined with ethnic-racial segregation in territories in the municipality of Jóia/RS, in which blacks reside. Segregation occurs in function of symbolically demarcated spatial limits, instituted from their places of experience and the social relationships that are established. Among the places, we chose to look at the school dropout factors, when observing the trajectories of young black women. Methodologically, this study is characterized as a qualitative research, based on oral history, using semi-structured interviews, by sampling, as an instrument of data production. We ask: What are the factors that corroborated the school dropout of some young black women in the municipality of Jóia/RS? The analysis movement pointed to a set of factors that caused evasion, and in this article we highlight the crossing of racial, generational, gender issues and the lack of recognition of a place at school by these young women, who use other alternatives that end up anticipating adult life early. The young black women studied stand out for being rejected for distancing themselves from a hegemonic aesthetic, marked as “erased faces” in the school system; the early link with motherhood, stable union or marriage; previous family generations have failed schooling, leaving the current generation with the chance to go to school, and this has left the children “luck”, if “god willing, they will be lucky”, since the children they are the bet of having “a good head for studies”.
