Abstract

SEPULVEDA, José Antônio  and  MENDONCA, Amanda. SECULARISM AND PANDEMIC IN CONSERVATIVE TIMES. Revista Teias [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.69, pp.384-396.  Epub Feb 28, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2022.58201.

The growth of religious extremism in Brazil and in the world and its relationship with the pandemic exposed the importance of fighting for a secular state. Thus, the aim of this text is to discuss and demonstrate the importance of laicity as a way of coping with conservative movements in the educational field, such as Escola sem Partido. The proposal to value secularism as a way of confronting scientific denialism is a way of defending society from extremist religious arguments that violate basic human rights principles, such as violence against women and misogyny in general.

Keywords : secularism; pandemic; education..
