Abstract

This article analyzes the formative and professional trajectory of Yara Lúcia Brayner Mattos (1941-2005) an educator, nutritionist, militant and native from Pernambuco politician. This documentary and bibliographical research aims to a critical understanding of the formative process that discharged in Yara Lúcia's militancy in the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) and in her arrest under a military and civilian regime, this article intent to contribute with a history that reflects the women's performance from their relation with the politics. The investigation for familiar, educational, cultural and political aspects allowed us to understand that Yara Lúcia's participation - in clubs as the Pernambuco Union of Students, the Popular Culture Movement and the Peasants Leagues in the decade of 1960 - had taken her militancy in the PCB as resistance and claim of the civil laws and confrontation of an authoritarian and dictatorial political regime.
