Abstract

PERES, Cristiane Pereira  and  FURTADO, Alessandra Cristina. LOIDE BONFIM: PORTRAITS OF THE TRAJECTORY OF A WOMAN IN THE INDIGENOUS RESERVE OF DOURADOS-MT (1938-1984). Revista Teias [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.70, pp.139-151.  Epub Feb 23, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2022.67534.

The article aims to analyze the trajectory of Professor Loide Bonfim and its consequences in missionary work and in the area of health and education, in the Dourados Indigenous Reserve (RID) in the 20th century. For the development of this analysis, we resorted mainly to the Protestant periodicals O Puritano (Presbyterian), O Estandarte (Presbyterian, independent Presbyterian) and Expositor Cristão (Methodist), which published articles on the missionary work developed by Loide Bonfim in the Evangelical Mission. Caiuá (MEC) and the Indigenous Reserve. The mobilized sources were analyzed from the theoretical assumptions of the New Cultural History. The study of this trajectory allowed us to understand that Loide Bonfim working in the field of school and non-school education, in the process of evangelization and in the area of health with indigenous peoples, even though most of his actions were permeated by the insertion of non-indigenous culture among the indigenous people, this woman played an important role with her teachings and, in addition, contributed to improvements in the living conditions of the Kaoiwá, Guarani and Terena. We can see, therefore, that the trajectory of Loide Bonfim has a lot to reveal about the history of women like her, who worked with the indigenous people, which cannot be written without taking into account the role played by ordinary but active women, who were resistant in their work and faced daily adversities.

Keywords : women's history; caiuá evangelical mission; missionary work.
