In the present article, the trajectory of the normalist teacher Rosa Castro (1891-1976), who worked in the public space through teaching and stood out for the teaching authority built in her working life as a teacher and intellectual in the State of Maranhão, is discussed. She founded in 1916 the Escola Normal Primaria Rosa Castro, where she taught and instructed an entire generation of teachers. Thus, we seek to analyze her knowledge and actions and the challenges she had faced during her teaching career and her participation in other public spaces. In this itinerary, she walks through the History of Education in Maranhão, within the scope of primary education and teaching in the First Republic. Thus, a documentary survey was carried out at the Benedito Leite Public Library of the State of Maranhão and a bibliographic survey in books and newspapers. Finally, giving visibility to this character is invested with importance for contributing to studies in the field of women's history and gender relations socially produced in the school culture of Maranhão.
