Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Fernanda Silva de  and  SOUZA, Janaína Moreira Pacheco de. THE WELCOMING OF THE IMMIGRANT STUDENT IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL OF RIO DE JANEIRO. Revista Teias [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.70, pp.308-319.  Epub Feb 23, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2022.65977.

The theme of this article is children in immigration situation in Brazilian schools, especially in public schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The dialogue is based on research and official public documents on refuge migration and helps to understand the actual challenges in the process of reception and inclusion of refugee children in these schools. The theoretical framework is based on Applied Linguistics and its teaching-learning studies related to Portuguese as a Welcoming Language (PLAc), as well as studies based on the critical perspective of intercultural education. In this way, it is important to raise reflections on the rights of immigrant children to education in order to understand their guarantee, and the guarantee of access, permanence and their ways of learning, as fundamental points in this discussion. Finally, the article intends to contribute to the discussion on language policies focused on the teaching of PLAc and on the training of teachers to work in this context.

Keywords : teaching in refuge and migration context; public school of Rio de Janeiro city; portuguese as a welcoming language; inclusion.
