Abstract

PEREIRA, Mara Dantas  and  SILVA, Joilson Pereira da. LOOKS AT DYSLEXIA, INCLUSION AND MENTAL HEALTH IN HIGHER EDUCATION. Revista Teias [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.72, pp.140-153.  Epub Aug 03, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2023.64427.

This article aimed to make a theoretical reflection about dyslexia, inclusion and mental health in higher education. To this end, the work was developed within the bibliographic research approach, with the use of legislative, technical and scientific documents. The text is organized in four sections: i) dyslexia: characteristics, consequences and its challenges for diagnosis; ii) challenges to the inclusion of dyslexic students in higher education: an invisible disability; iii) repercussions of dyslexia on the mental health of college students: ways of coping; and iv) discussion of the results. The results pointed out possible negative repercussions of dyslexia on learning and mental health of university students. Therefore, it is understood the importance of higher education institutions to provide coping resources that allow the valorization of these individuals, respecting their specificities, through educational interventions, for the prevention and promotion of mental health in the university environment.

Keywords : dyslexia; inclusive higher education; mental health.
