Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Lanna Cecília Lima de; SILVA, Luana Patrícia Costa  and  SILVA, Matheus Ferreira da. CLOSING OF RURAL SCHOOLS: among the territories of articulation, resistance and struggle. Revista Teias [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.72, pp.330-342.  Epub Aug 03, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2023.67227.

This article seeks to promote a reflection based on the analysis of the organizational role of civil society in the fight against the closure of rural schools, with the objective of tracing an overview of the articulations in defense of rural education and presenting a case study, referring to the process of resistance and struggle related to the reopening of the Maria Emília Maracajá Municipal School, located on the São José do Bonfim site, in the city of Areia, Paraíba. The theoretical assumptions that underlie this research are anchored in the studies of Arroyo (2008, 2014), Caldart (2008), Molina (2008), and other scholars who focus on and contribute to the territories of rural education. The methodological basis used is guided by a qualitative approach and participant research, based on studies by Brandão (2006) and Yin (2001). The data observed in the census make explicit the option of denying the right to school in peasant territories, as there is an increase in the closing of rural schools, especially in the northeast region. Despite this, society has organized itself into a network and made efforts to change this reality and achieve achievements from the fight against the closure of these schools. The reopening of the Maria Emília Maracajá School is a reflection of this organization and demonstrates the power of articulation of subjects in defense of their rights.

Keywords : rural education; fight; organization.
