Abstract

FREIRE, Juliana Ribeiro; OLIVEIRA, Carlos Bruno Cabral de  and  VALLE, Mariana Guelero do. THE USE OF AUGMENTED REALITY IN SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY EDUCATION: What biological sciences students at a higher education institution in Maranhão say. Revista Teias [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.73, pp.338-350.  Epub Aug 24, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2023.69578.

The present work aimed to investigate the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in Science and Biology teaching from the perspective of biological sciences undergraduates. The target audience were undergraduates in biological sciences from a higher education institution in Maranhão and data collection took place in a Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) workshop, in which participants could experience AR through the application Google Expeditions. They were presented with a questionnaire that addressed the use of AR in teaching. For data analysis, three categories were drawn: operability, involvement and effectiveness. AR brings an attractive perspective to students, for this, it is important to have a plan that takes into account the availability of resources and school infrastructure. It is necessary that initial training promotes a global view of the potential of these tools, in addition to greater investments to guarantee access to technological resources.

Keywords : digital technology; augmented reality; teaching of Science; teaching of biology.
