Abstract

AGUIAR, André Effgen de  and  MILEA, Arasy González. INTERTWINING LANGUAGES AND HISTORY: torture practices from the view of critical literacy. Revista Teias [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.74, pp.230-247.  Epub Dec 06, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2023.71287.

The present work intends to connect, in a transdisciplinary way, the teaching of languages and history, through the discussion and elaboration of a didactic proposal, guided by the philosophical-educationalcultural precepts of critical literacy (DUBOC, 2014, AGUIAR, 2021, 2022, SHOR, 1999, BISHOP, 2014; CARBONIERI, 2016, LEWISON, FLINT, VAN SLUYS, 2002;, GONZÁLEZ-MILEA, GARCÍA-RUIZ, 2021). The idea is to reflect about institutionalized torture practices, especially during the brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985), and to understand their contemporary legacies through veiled torture methods, which are increasingly sophisticated. The important thing here is to name what is hidden, and build with students alternative ways to understand the story that History does not tell.

Keywords : critical literacy; language teaching; history teaching; military dictatorship; tortures..
