Abstract

It has been sought to analyze the documentary Before the Flood (2016) qualitatively, entitled in Brazil as Seremos história?, which portraits the consequences of climate change due to anthropic actions. In this regard the study had as objective understanding climate changes from human actions on the planet and identifying the possibilities of avoiding increase in disasters, having as a starting point from the analyzes of Before the flood (2016) documentary scenes. To elucidate and to comprehend the documentary a connection was established with authors such as Gomes (2012), Sagan (2017), Harari (2017) and with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2022). The study allowed us to comprehend that the planetary preservation and the environmental reclaiming is necessary, and for the human species to survive it is necessary to have an environmental awareness. Despite so much denialism, the Climate changes can be evidenced by the images of the polar ice caps melting, hurricanes, desertification, carbon dioxide excess in the atmosphere, floods, earthquakes. The current context full of environmental exploration led by capitalism instigates the reflection about the necessity of a cosmic, historical, environmental, and educational awareness. The documentary Before the flood (2016), as well as the authors on which the study was based corroborate about the importance of citizen’s awareness about the urgent necessity of reclaiming and preserving the environment. If we don´t change our life stale and our harmful principles stimulated by the capitalist society, competition, production, accumulation, and consumption we could be on the way to our species extinction and all others.
