Abstract

This paper, which uses as methodology the qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, aims to respond to the cause of the explosive increase in the number of students with High Skills/Giftedness in 2019, compared to 2018, according to the data released in the Census School and in the Statistical Synopsis of Basic Education. As shown in the article, the number of enrollments of gifted to Sao Paulo in 2019 was not 32,638 records, but only 1,932. Thus, the number of these enrollments for Brazil, in the same year, was not 54,359 but 23,653 records. This super dimensioning occurred due to problems in the calculation of data by the Teaching Boards of the State Department of Education of the State of São Paulo. These corrections and updates have not yet been made in the School Census or the Statistical Synopsis of Basic Education. In this context, the paper points to some weaknesses, failures and problems with collection systems, and data records, to calculate the enrollment numbers of students with High Skills/Giftedness in the School Census. It still discusses some measures that could be adopted to improve the efficiency, quality and accuracy of these systems.
