CHAGAS, Maria Clara; NUNES, Guilherme da Silveira e PEDREIRA, Ana Júlia. SCIENCE TEACHING IN THE INITIAL LITERACY BLOCK: The vision of teachers in the early years of a school in the Federal District. The early years of elementary school mark the first contact that students have with specific science content and the first step towards scientific literacy defined by the Common National Curricular Base (BNCC). Some teachers have insecurities regarding the approach to scientific content that affect the development of their practice, and this insecurity may be related to their generalist training. This work aimed to investigate the view of teachers of the Initial Literacy Block on the importance of teaching science in a school in the Federal District. A questionnaire was answered by nine teachers, and the answers were analyzed using the thematic analysis methodology. We found that some of the teachers considered they had a certain difficulty in approaching Science contents but reported a good frequency of practical activities and relevant methods to provide the effective learning discussed in documents such as the BNCC and the Currículo em Movimento of the Federal District. Moreover, the teachers considered science teaching important in the Early Literacy Block, especially in the formation of a critical citizen and in the development of the relationship between self and environment and presented a pedagogical activity in accordance with what is discussed in the literature as important for the teaching of science.
