The article derives from studies carried out in the Postgraduate Program in Public Policies and Educational Management, at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and from the scientific productions of the Research Group Gestar/CNPq, in view of the construction of the field about the permanent training of teachers of early childhood education. In it, the objective is to analyze the production of knowledge about the permanent training of early childhood education teachers, from 2017 to 2021. The methodology used was based on a research of the state of knowledge, based on content analysis for the construction, categorization and analysis of data. The scientific productions were extracted from the database of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT), in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Considering the production of knowledge under analysis, it became possible to understand that the school constitutes a powerful and personified locus for the professional development of teachers, and permanent training has a lot to offer when welcomed and carried out in the context of professional performance and articulated to the political-pedagogical proposal of each institution. Also, continuing education contributes to a quality, equitable, problematizing and dialogical education, insofar as it is constituted in the contexts of professional activity, being produced by the demands, weaknesses and potential of teachers.
