BERIMBAU, Mariana do. JACINTA MARIA DE SANTANA: a black woman mummified by/in the history of education and science. Revista Teias [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.78, pp.31-47.  Epub 11-Out-2024. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2024.84126.

This paper presents the case of mummification, exposure and violence against the body of the young black woman Jacinta Maria de Santana that occurred at the Faculty of Law of São Paulo at the beginning of the 20th century. This episode, while it produced Jacinta's oblivion and invisibility, promoted the white man, scientist and professor responsible for her mummification, whose name was consecrated in multiple ways. The documents analyzed here come from periodicals published in the period, among which the Imprensa Negra Paulista newspapers stand out. This article promotes reflections on the supposed neutrality of science and the archives from which History is written, indicates the importance of thinking about a history of the education of whiteness and invites us to reflect on contemporary forms of mummification, in all its possible meanings, of black women in spaces of education and knowledge production.

Palavras-chave : black women; whiteness; coloniality; history of sciences; history of education.
