VILANOVA, Francisco Gomes. “IN MY DAY, TEACHERS WERE VALUED, TEACHERS WERE PEOPLE, TEACHERS WERE WELL-LIKED”: trajectories of female teachers from Piauí in memory accounts. Revista Teias [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.78, pp.195-209. Epub 11-Out-2024. ISSN 1982-0305. https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2024.84179.
The central theme of this research is the trajectories of female teachers from Piauí. The aim is to analyze their trajectories, focusing on the process of entering the teaching profession and the role they played in their positions, based on their memoirs. The time frame defined spans the 1950s and 1970s, the period in which the protagonists entered the teaching profession. The study is linked to the field of the History of Education, associated with the postulations of the New Cultural History. From a methodological point of view, priority was given to the use of memories captured through oral history. The testimonies were collected through interviews with five retired teachers. These accounts were cross-referenced with other documentary sources, such as government messages, newspaper articles, among others, which helped us to understand the context studied. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that it focuses on ordinary people whose memories have brought aspects of their teaching careers out of silence and oblivion.
