This article is a constituent part of the research carried out in the doctoral process that deals with the Basic Education Movement (MEB), in the municipality of Tefé/AM. We aimed to analyze the educational proposals of the MEB in Tefé/AM, aimed at the riverside population in the period from 1963 to 1973. To understand its historicity, we used as documentary sources the reports, the pedagogical proposals, the terms of agreements, the scripts and journalistic articles accessed through the National Library's Digital Hemeroteca portal. To establish a dialogue with these sources, we borrowed authors who deal with the Basic Education Movement in different contexts. Regarding the methodological basis, we are close to the ideas of Certeau (2017), Prost (2008) and Ginzburg (1989). We evidenced that the MEB, through its actions, involved the riverside population in practices related to education, health, leisure, religion and culture. Using the MEB, the Catholic Church was present in remote areas of the North of the country, often assuming the role of the State.
