CARVALHO, Lorenna Bolsanello de  e  SILVA, Márcia Cabral da. DALCÍDIO JURANDIR: from Fried Fish to the pages of Dom Casmurro. Revista Teias [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.78, pp.265-278.  Epub 11-Out-2024. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2024.83718.

Dalcídio Jurandir, a Brazilian writer from the state of Pará, wrote Ciclo do Extremo Norte, a series of novels in which Amazonian experiences from the beginning of the 20th century were fictionalized, promoting the circulation of knowledges and languages that are often marginalized. This author became part of the national literary scene with the publication of Chove nos Campos de Cachoeira (1941), as he won the Vecchi-Dom Casmurro Novel Competition in 1940. This article aims at mapping the role of cultural mediation promoted by editorial epitexts (Genette, 2009) that involved the dissemination of Dalcídio’s inaugural novel in the pages of the literary newspaper Dom Casmurro, since the presentation of Dalcídio Jurandir to the newspaper readers enabled the dissemination of constitutive elements of the Amazonian cultural identity. Three journalistic articles related to the publicity of the novel, written by the Pará literary writers Dalcídio Jurandir, Bruno de Menezes and Cléo Bernardo, are analyzed. From a theoretical and methodological point of view, the emphasis is on the assumptions of Cultural History (Chartier, 2011; 2014), associated with the way of conceiving the relations between social groups and the circulation of written culture. Therefore, this study is situated in the intersection between the History of Education and the History of Books and Reading.
