Abstract

PUKE, Natalia  and  OLIVEIRA, Fernanda Ferreira de. BAQUE CAIPIRA AND POPULAR CULTURE: a possible way to re-signifying education. Revista Teias [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.80, e82715.  Epub May 08, 2025. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2025.82715.

The issue of education remains a current topic of discussion, since equality in the guarantee of these rights is not yet a reality. It is therefore essential to broaden the reflection beyond the school environment and consider education in its entirety, as a fundamental part of a social project. To this end, the aim is to guarantee the full right to learn and develop as a citizen. The text aims to highlight the importance of an education that is connected to different educational contexts, taking into account different age groups, cultural expressions and social spaces. Based on these assumptions, the authors set out to investigate their own practices as educators and producers of cultural projects involving popular culture, specifically the actions of the Grupo Percussivo Baque Caipira, which develops a unique work that integrates the body of knowledge inherent in the maracatu de baque virado - a rhythm from Pernambuco - with the expressions and symbols of afro-indigenous and caipira culture from the interior of São Paulo. They chose to create a narrative based on the knowledge and perspectives present in popular culture, understood as an educational space beyond the confines of educational institutions. To do this, they relied on the approach of narrative research, which studies experience as history, which is mainly a way of thinking about experience, which can be developed simply by telling stories or by experiencing stories. Finally, this paper presents possible ways of reframing education, highlighting how popular culture can contribute to understanding other ways of thinking about and doing education

Keywords : education; popular culture; maracatu de baque virado.
