Abstract

SARMENTO, Dirléia Fanfa; MENEGAT, Jardelino  and  MOCARZEL, Marcelo Siqueira Maia Vinagre. RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION AND EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. Revista Teias [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.80, e82733.  Epub May 08, 2025. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2025.82733.

The text, resulting from ongoing research, aims to present the relationships between the right to education and education for sustainable development (EDS), recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The investigative corpus, composed of the document Education 2030: Incheon Declaration-Towards an Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and Lifelong Education for All, is analyzed based on Cellard's guidelines. For the analytical-reflective foray, it dialogues with other devices disseminated by UNESCO relating to the relationships between education and sustainable development. Results indicate that the emphasis on the relationship between ESD and the right to education appears in this document, not being accentuated in previous Declarations that preceded it, despite the theme of education and development being a focus of UNESCO in previous decades. They demonstrate the connections between the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Education 2030 - Incheon Declaration, proposed by UNESCO. They indicate an educational ideology based on the conception of education as a right for all, a public good and one of the means to realize other rights essential to human dignity; sustainable development; social justice; the inclusion; and respect for cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity. This set of indicators corroborates UNESCO's commitment to all SDGs, expanding its focus beyond Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

Keywords : right to education; sustainable development; Education 2030.
