Abstract

BAPTAGLIN, Leila Adriana; OLIVEIRA, Floralice Barreto  and  OLIVEIRA, Gabrielle. CHILDREN'S IDENTITY CONSTRUCTION: recognition of self and others in the intercultural and immigration context in the municipal schools of Boa Vista-RR. Revista Teias [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.81, e89431.  Epub Nov 03, 2025. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2025.89431.

This paper aimed to understand, from an intercultural perspective and an immigration context, how children construct their identity based on actions of self-recognition and recognition of others developed in the school environment. Based on an excerpt from an ethnographic study, we sought to bring observation data and the implementation of an activity in two elementary school classes in the municipal school system of Boa Vista/RR. In order to carry out this activity, we chose to analyze some categories established based on the conceptual understanding of identity and interculturality presented by Hall (2003) and Canclini (2004), namely: Nationality (race/ethnicity/language) and Gender and Sexuality. We consider that the issue of children's identity is not something that is constituted in isolation, as Hall (2003) already stated. We highlight that it is permeated by distinct categories that are extremely complex in the field of literature and even more complex in the specificities of each child. Thus, it is necessary to look at these specificities and the way in which the school has reproduced some patterns.

Keywords : children; identity construction; immigration..
