Resumen

BRITO, Leandro Teofilo de. “WOKE BRO ALSO HAS FEELINGS”: Masculinity, Youth, and Difference in the Contemporary Student Movement. Revista Teias [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.81, e90440.  Epub 03-Nov-2025. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2025.90440.

This article aims to discuss enunciations about masculinities in narratives concerning the participation of young male-identifying students in the Student Movement at Colégio Pedro II (SMCPII). To problematize the categories of masculinity and youth, the text is grounded in a theoretical-political perspective of difference, with a particular focus on the work of Jacques Derrida and Judith Butler. Furthermore, it draws upon the production of collective narratives developed through discussion groups with student-activists from two campuses of the institution. Among the findings, the student-activists expressed in their narratives the disputes, relationships, and power dynamics that shaped their political engagement in student unions and their alliances with feminist, Black, and LGBTI+ collectives. The formation of student-activists, a historical feature of CPII, revealed-through the research-new critical and reflective subjects who, although at times contradictory, are also engaged in actions that recognize the importance of transforming masculinities in contemporary society.

Palabras clave : masculinity; youth; difference; student movement; school..
