This study intends to explain convergent points between Paulo Freire and Anísio Teixeira during the period from 1959 to 1969. For that, the texts of Freire produced in that time taken as research sources are: Educação e atualidade brasileira and Educação como prática da liberdade. Comparing Anísio and Freire it becomes possible to observe important convergences between them, as for the education role in the constitution of democratic habits and in the construction of a democratic society through great educative efforts. Such closeness is very perceptible up to the second work of Freire, Educação como prática da liberdade, being less evident in his subsequent works. As Freire produces new texts and participates in new political and educative experiences with peasants in Chile, his refections give priority to themes as the severance among oppressors and downtrodden people and the revolution as a cultural action.
