MATOS, José Cláudio Morelli. Concepções evolucionistas da cultura e a questão da educação. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2008, vol.22, n.43, pp.33-62. ISSN 1982-596X.

ABSTRACT This article explores certain conception about the theory of evolution by natural selection applied to knowledge and culture. Human capacities to knowledge and language are discussed and investigated since its origins in the process of biological evolution. This reference to the evolutionary picture gives rise to an analogy between culture and life, wich is understood in an evolutionary process. The most recognized version of this explanatory model is memetics, first expressed by Dawkins, having received a more philosophical account by Dennet. According to this view one can think about education - in a wide sense of the term - as part of an evolutionary process. Education, in this view, selects and propagates the cultural replicators: units of cultural information, submitted of evolution - called memes. The preference for the adoption of critical attitude, and the rational consideration of arguments, for example, can be understood as a way of select memes, that depends in most cases, of the exercise and reinforcement, due by educational processes, in the environment of human culture
