Abstract

PAIVA, Maria Olímpia  and  LOURENCO, Abílio Afonso. Ambiente da sala de aula: um estudo de caso. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2011, vol.25, n.49, pp.17-42. ISSN 1982-596X.

Of the various ways of approaching the classroom, the analysis of the learning environment has been one of the options working in the educational field. The goal of this investigation is to corroborate the relevancy of the environment of the classroom together with other socialdemographic variables in accounting for students’ academic achievement. To assess the environment of the classroom was used the “Psychossociological Environment of the Classroom” (APSA) scale (Antunes 2002). A sample of 336 students of the compulsory portuguese schooling (Middle School) has been selected of two state schools in the north of Portugal. The goal was oriented to test the adequacy of the structural equation model (SPSS.17/ AMOS.17), on which some specific and hypothetical causal relations have been posed. The environment of the classroom has a positive and significant impact in the academic achievement (Mother Language and Maths).

Keywords : Classroom Environment; Academic Achievement; Structural Equation Models.
