My intention here is to discuss the significance of emotions in the structuring of moral reasoning and in the processes of decision-making. I propose to establish a philosophical and scientific design of the contemporary discussion about the relations of interaction and integration between perceptive/cognitive and affective/emotional processes. In other to accomplish this task, I assume the proposal of Jaak Panksepp’s Affective Neuroscience, which proposes, as a neurophilosophical model, to situate the role of basic emotion in the behavior. From the support of its conceptual background, I intend to establish the possible relations between mental states, neural states and behavior, in order to outline and propose a solution to the conceptual, philosophical and scientific difficulties that inhere in the relations between neurobiological ability and subjective experiences. Finally, I propose to show, in the context of the cognitive sciences, the advantage of the emergentism in relation to identity and reductionist theories.
