The analysis proposed in this paper concerns a problematic issue in Aristotle’s thought. Indeed, the discussion about pathe in De anima also implies the problem represented by nous in Aristotle, since the noein is placed among pathe of the soul. Aristotle, with respect to this particular pathos, develops a vary complex argument. The aim of this work is to show that the physical-biological explanation of pathe leads to the same problem concerning intellect because it depends on two different models both present in De anima: (1). Naturalistic-empirical model: stating close unity between body and soul and (2). Divine-nonempirical model: nous is strongly detatched from body since it can not be mortal. The analysis proposed by Aristotle includes both these schemes and indicates a solution which seems to follow the second model. However, a solution in agreement with the first model is also suggested but not undertaken. In this perspective, the pollachōs leghetai, is a methodology used by Aristotle to explain a complex reality which can be approached from different angles leading to different, but not contradictive, conclusions.
