This article discusses prejudice against Philosophy and the challenge it constitutes for Philosophy teachers. Based on commonly voiced expressions of such prejudice, an investigation is made of its origins in Ancient Greece and its links to the advent of the class-structured society. In conclusion, arguments making use of positions and categories postulated by Antonio Gramsci are used to found a critique of stereotyped perceptions of Philosophy.
