Abstract

SILVA NETO, Sertório de Amorim e. Vico e la scienza dei Giganti: implicazioni per l'analise della cultura brasiliana. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2014, vol.28, n.1es, pp.115-131. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.6801/201412esp008.

This essay aims to connect two different traditions of Western thought from different periods and different geographic areas: the thought of Vico and the Brazilian's thought of Buarque and Flusser. Theme by Vico who returns to these authors is the investigation of a human nature shaped by the imperatives of the forest, that is, a man shaped by the interaction with a dense and unforgiving natural cosmos. In both cases, the aim was to support theories about the nature of nations, with the difference, in the case of Vico, that the humanitas forged in the forest is that the founders of the gentile nations, while Buarque and Flusser that is the nature of the colonizers of Brazil, the Portuguese, who left the soil of distinguished European institutions to venture into the moist tropical forest. The objective is to investigate the concept of the barbaric nature in Vico and then deduce a theory about the nature of the Brazilians.

Keywords : Vico; Jungle; Giants; Brazilian Culture.
