The establishment of the Education Sciences initiated a debate about the fate of Pedagogy that is far from its end. The affirmation of Social Pedagogy in several European countries brings back into the agenda the reflection about the pertinence of the pedagogical knowledge as well as the 'specifically pedagogical' issue. Reviewing the current debate, concerning the pedagogical knowledge status, and the current developments of Social Pedagogy, we shall argue that complementary to the education sciences, the pedagogical knowledge practices a particular questioning mode exercising a practical reason, normative and prescriptive, being essential in teachers and educators training
