The article that follows aims, by means of bibliographical research, revisiting the concept of catharsis from the perspective of historical materialism, under the figure of Georg Lukács, putting it into dialogue with education and, especially, with the teaching of art. To this end, starts to make a reflection about the importance of art education today, and then discusses the art and the catharsis from the ideas of Lukács. Finalizes the text to the present relations between the catharsis and the educational work. Concludes that the reflections caused by the work of art can be potentiated by the partnership school/exhibition space, triggering cathartic processes that contribute to the construction of a sharp eye, combined with a sharp critical sense, as well as to the establishment of new relations with reality.
