Nowadays, with the dissemination of an inclusion policy, teacher training intends to promote a reflection on differences within the school environment, training professionals to deal with them. Hence, this article discusses the process of legal recognition and dissemination of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in Brazil and its establishment as a mandatory subject in teacher training courses. To this purpose, we present the experience of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and of one of the Federal Universities of Minas Gerais. Besides analyzing how Libras has been dealt with, we emphasize the various aspects involving it and student experiences with the subject, in order to discuss their impact on the development of future professionals. We have observed that despite the small hour load and content of in this discipline, Libras in Higher Education triggers a consistent process of social, political, cultural and academic transformation.
