Resumen

CASAGRANDE, Cledes Antonio. Symbolic interactionism, the formation of the self and education: some approaches to G. H. Mead's thinking. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2016, vol.30, n.59, pp.375-403. ISSN 1982-596x.  https://doi.org/10.14393/REVEDFIL.issn.0102-6801.v30n59a2016-p375a403.

This article is about education and the process of self-formation from "symbolic interactionism" perspective. It aims to sketch an approach to Mead"s thinking, yet little known in the Brazilian academic community, as well as establish a discussion within the field of theory of education. Therefore, we start from the following problem: according to Mead, how can we understand the process of individuation of the self, and what is the conception of education deriving from his "symbolic interactionism"? Mead"s theory fits in the understanding that we, human beings, are inscribed in an intersubjective, interactive and symbolic matrix in which, through processes of socialization and learning, we develop a personal identity and structure our personality.
