Abstract

FABRI, Marcelo. On ipseity: Marion’s interpretation of Levinas’ thought. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2016, vol.30, suppl., pp.115-131. ISSN 1982-596x.  https://doi.org/10.14393/REVEDFIL.issn.0102-6801.v30nEspeciala2016-p115a131.

The paper examines the Marion’s interpretation of Levinas’ thought in special attention to the problem of the Self. Marion’s thesis is the phenomenological description of the Self makes clear that the contrast between ethics and ontology presupposes a pre-ethical and pre-ontological ipseity. Even accepting the Levinas’s heritage, Marion intends to examine the problem of ipseity beyond this philosopher, and he does so through a deep analysis of the erotic phenomenon, considered by him as absolutely forgotten in the Western philosophical tradition.
