Resumen

CECILIO, Guilherme da Costa Assunção. The role of imitation in the Republic’s educational project and the question of the imitative style of Plato’s dialogues. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2017, vol.31, n.62, pp.943-957.  Epub 09-Mar-2021. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v31n62a2017-p943a957.

The correct understanding of Plato’s theory of imitation - μίμησις - shows that the philosopher does not have any objection to imitation as such; on the contrary, it is a resource of the utmost importance to his educational and philosophical project. This understanding allows us to grasp the real scope of the critique of poetry presented in his Republic and to justify the style of his own philosophical work.
