Abstract

PAGLIACCI, Donatella. Educate to live in the City of God. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.64, pp.243-264.  Epub Sep 20, 2020. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v32n64a2018-12.

In this paper we are examined educational tasks undertaken by the Bishop of Hippo through the drafting of the text on the City of God. In fact, since the opening of the work, he assumes the burden of teaching not only the main contents of the Christian religion, able to illuminate the events of the present time, but above all to indicate which way should be walked for the achievement of inner balance and eternal salvation. Three so the thematic poles on which we would like to briefly focus our attention: education to life, to peace and to the community that gathers around the idea of people. To address these three complex, but also very timely issues, the bishop of Hippo looks like a teacher before his disciples, whose confidence with respect to suppliers arises from the experience and knowledge of the human soul, capable and rich in potential, but also by the determination of who knows he must still make comprehensible the contents of faith.

Keywords : Education for life; Peace; Community life of people; Knowledge of the human soul; Faith.
